Kush/ Nubia was an African Kingdom located to the south of Egypt. The Nubians lived in the land of Nubia (later known as Kush). It was in ancient Nubia that in about 2000 BC the Kush civilization began to develop.
Kingdom of Kush starts around 850BC with capital city of Napata. Napata served as a trade link between central Africa and Egypt.
The Kingdom of Kush was a major power in the Nile valley for over 1000 years and, for a brief period around 700 BC, dominated it, controlling an empire stretching from Central Sudan to the Mediterranean.
Kush was known for its rich gold mines and important trading hub for
*Egyptian goods = grain, beer, linen
*Kush goods = gold, ivory, leather, timber
Egypt often raided Kush and took control of parts of its territory. Kush paid tribute to the pharaoh.
King Kashta invades Egypt around 750BC and his son King Piye completes conquest around 728BC. King Piye then declared himself Pharaoh and “Uniter, of the Two Lands”. Kushite pharaohs ruled Egypt for over 100 years. King Pye was known later as the founder of the twenty-fifth Dynasty of Egypt. He came to Egypt and ruled Egypt, from far to the south at ancient Napata.
Kushites later were driven out by the Assyrians.
